Hike 20: Barranco de Masca

Since 12 July 2024, an eco-tax of €29.96 per person has been charged to enter the Barranco de Masca. You must purchase a ticket online in advance. From 9:00 to 12:00 there are 4 bookable time slots for the descent or ascent. In addition, a €25 ticket for the boat transfer to Los Gigantes must be purchased for the descent.

The Barranco is only open on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and public holidays. 3 boat transfer companies alternate daily. The path has been extended and made safe. Helmets are compulsory. Helmets can be borrowed when registering at the new visitor centre 30 minutes before the booked time slot. You can book the tickets here. The page also contains links to the boat companies.

There is no longer any reason to travel by car. The parking time in Masca has been limited to 2 hours and there are buses from Santiago del Teide to Masca from 8.15am. However, I recommend arriving at the bus stop early, as only 26 people are taken. Standing room is not permitted. The return journey is then by bus from Los Gigantes to Santiago del Teide.

What is really annoying is that exotic plants have been banned from the barranco or are partially covered with tarpaulins. I imagine nature conservation to be something different.
