Hike 20: Barranco de Masca
current information (from 03/13/2022):
Meanwhile you can only hike the gorge with an online ticket. From 8:30 a.m., 25 hikers at a time are allowed onto the Camino every 30 minutes. However, you can hike at your own pace and do not have to stay within the group. The path is largely developed and secured. Helmets are compulsory and you must register at the new visitor centre 30 minutes in advance.
The jetty at Playa de Masca has not been renewed and there is also no permission for water taxis to dock. So during the pilot phase
you have to walk downhill and uphill again. You need to be in good shape for the ascent. It is not clear how long the pilot phase will
last. You can book here. At present the walk-in is free of charge.
As there are no buses in the morning, you have to arrive by car. Unfortunately, the parking time in Masca is limited to 2 hours. It is
unclear whether it is possible to park longer in the northern part of Masca.
Â
What is really annoying is that exotic plants have been banned from the barranco or are partially covered with tarpaulins. I imagine nature conservation to be something different. It is also unclear which target group this hike is supposed to address. First you simplify the path and then you have to go uphill again.
