Hike 23: Barranco de Ruiz
current information (from 11/2019):
The upper section of the barranco in the direction of La Vera/Icod is still closed. The route presented here is not affected. There is a risk of falling rocks in the lower barranco. The tour should be avoided during storms and after heavy rainfall.
The hike begins directly on the TF-5 with a moderately difficult climb in the Barranco de Ruiz. The views are simply incredible. One minute you're on the motorway and the next you have a view of the entire north coast.
Once at the top you walk on asphalt roads to San Juan de la Rambla. This is a bit tiring, but from the halfway point of the tour, the descent to the small mountain community follows a small inconspicuous path that has to be found by GPS. In San Juan de la Rambla we cross the TF-5 over a bridge and after a short time arrive directly at the Atlantic Ocean. The panoramic path leads to the Barranco de Ruiz, where we take the last ascent to the hikers' car park. Overall, the tour is quite varied.
A detailed description of the route and the GPS track can be found in the Hiking Guide Tenerife.
