Hike 27: big trail to Faro from Benijo
11.10.2022: closed trail
The section from Faro de Anaga to El Draguillo is closed due to falling stones and rock slides. I tested the path and some areas are very narrow and slippery. Further restrictions must be expected. The hike is not recommended until further notice.
Â
This hike is one of the grandiose but also difficult Anaga tours. We park in Benijo just behind the El Fronton restaurant and hike along the panoramic path via El Draguillo and Las Palmas to the Faro de Anaga (Faro = lighthouse). This section is easy and offers fantastic views of the Atlantic. The offshore rock Roque de Dentro is always in view.
Â
At Faro de Anaga we take a short rest on a bench. The path now leads sharply left up the ridge of the Montana de Tafada. The 400 metres in altitude are still easy to manage. At the top of the ridge, you have to keep an eye on the GPS, otherwise you will end up on the side trail to Chamorga. But we hike to the right a little further along the ridge.
Â
The trail first leads slightly downhill through cloud forest and then more and more steeply through the forest to a wayside cross. There is no sign here. Only one path is marked with the white-yellow symbol. This leads to Chamorga. We take the unmarked path on the right. This leads us in a steady descent back to Benijo. The 3 km descent from the ridge seems much longer to us. For those who prefer a shorter route to Faro, we recommend Tour 32.

A detailed description of the route and the GPS track can be found in the Hiking Guide Tenerife.
