Hike 76: Chamorga/Faro/Almaciga

11.10.2022: closed trail

The section from Faro de Anaga to El Draguillo is closed due to falling stones and rock slides. I tested the path and some areas are very narrow and slippery. Further restrictions must be expected. The hike is not recommended until further notice.

The best hikes can only be created when you know a hiking area well. This hike is a section of hikes 27 and 56, but both are difficult. My idea was to create a tour that contains all the highlights but is only moderately difficult. And that is exactly what this hike is. As you can see, it is not a round trip, because somewhere you have to save the 500 metres of ascent to Chamorga. At the end, I explain the options for getting there and back.

heights profile Faro de Anaga

We start in Chamorga and walk the wonderfully green Barranco Bermejo in an easy descent. Especially in summer in the early morning hours, this is a dream. After 3.6 km we have reached the lowest point. Here you can descend to the Playa de Roque Bermejo. But you should bear in mind that you still have to climb another 400 metres in altitude. If you want to swim, you can do so at the end of the hike at Playa de Almaciga.

Now we go up to the Faro de Anaga. Behind the lighthouse there is a bench where you can take a break. The path then leads slightly downhill along the Atlantic coast before going up again to Las Palmas. There are some huts here and a hermit lives there. We stay on the main path along the cliffs. After passing some ridges, we see Taganana in the distance. First we reach El Draguillo, then Benijo on a forest road and the last stretch we go on the TF-134 to Almaciga. In Benijo or Almaciga you can stop for a bite to eat (tip: El Fronton restaurant in Benijo) and a swim.

A detailed description of the route and the GPS track can be found in the Hiking Guide Tenerife.

Drive to Chamorga

Here I explain the arrival and departure:

(1) You park the rental car at the bus stop El Cuchillo (red arrow) and get on the bus L947. The bus only leaves on Saturdays at 8:20 via El Bailadero to Chamorga. After the tour at 15:30 take the bus from Almaciga L946 through the tunnel to the stop El Cuchillo.

(2) You drive with 2 rental cars. The first one is parked as in (1). With the second one you drive to Chamorga, do the tour and then take the bus L946. It runs quite often every day and you are very flexible. Here you can see the departure times. It is the departure from Taganana on the right. You have to subtract 5 minutes from this because you leave at Almaciga.
