Hike 31: Garachico
The hike leads from the centre of Garachico to San Juan del Reparo. During the 3 km ascent, 488 metres in altitude have to be overcome. That is anything but a short walk. That is why I classify this tour as moderately difficult.
After only 15 minutes of walking, you can already see Garachico. The rest of the ascent is only worthwhile for ambitious hikers. The path is relatively difficult to walk because there is not much left of the original paving. At the top of San Juan del Reparo, there is really nothing to see that justifies the arduous climb.
In my opinion this supplementary tour is not a compulsory programme. In addition, the town of Garachico is well worth a visit. During the eruption of Montana Negra in 1706, the town was almost completely destroyed. In the meantime, however, this nice little town on the Atlantic has been spruced up again. If you pass by here after returning from the Teno Mountains, you should plan a stopover.
A detailed description of the route and the GPS track can be found in the Hiking Guide Tenerife.
