Hike 62: Las Ventanas
5 km above Güimar you can park the car near the antenna masts. From here begins an ascent of 250 metres in altitude. The entrance starts on the right side of the path and passes a field with bushes. There is also a sign here that you should not enter the canal, as with any canal. The beginning is still a bit rough. You often have to switch between in/next to/on the canal but by the time you reach the first tunnel you have adjusted to these conditions. The important thing is that you often walk on a break-off edge and have to concentrate. The condition of the canal is also dilapidated in some places due to its age. However, it is not really dangerous.
At the small yellow excavator is the entrance to the first tunnel. This is quite long and, like the second, has no windows. A good lamp is therefore a must. In terms of height, it is no problem for people up to 1.75 m to get through all the tunnels in a stooped position without bumps. You shouldn't push your sunglasses up on your head because they can get scratched. The road conditions in the tunnels are better than outside.
The views in the second half of the hike are magnificent. Therefore, it does not make sense to turn back after the first half. After the 10th tunnel, it is another 1.5 km to the descent path. This leads us into a small residential area. You can't get a taxi here. I took a side descent and then walked back to the car via TF-28. This is virtually the hardest part of the tour and dampens the mood. It is better to descend to Güimar and take a taxi back to the starting point. With this option, I would classify the level of fitness as "middle".
