Hike 49: from Los Silos to Erjos
This hike surprised me in a very positive way. We park the car in the centre of Los Silos either in the car park at the church or in a side street. Then we cross the TF-42 and take the hiking trail to the right at the first junction. On the way up, we hike the Barranco de las Moradas with fantastic views. We always stay on the main hiking trail towards Erjos, which is well signposted at each junction.
After 10 km we reach Erjos. The place is often in the clouds and it is a bit chilly. Today, however, we are lucky. Even the view of the Teide is possible in the early afternoon. We don't stay in the village and walk down towards Los Silos. At first there are hardly any views worth seeing and the path is a bit uneven and relatively steep. After 3 km of the way back, the terrain becomes more open and we experience deep views into the Barranco de los Cochinos. The descent is now somewhat easier. On the last 1.5 km, the path becomes very easy.
A detailed description of the route and the GPS track can be found in the Hiking Guide Tenerife.
A very worthwhile tour in green nature. Many different plants are in bloom along the way. Birds sing and every now and then you hear a bird of prey. On the way, you always have to reckon with a rain shower, as was the case today. But afterwards it became sunny and warm again. The high trail in the upper part in Erjos is perfectly developed. There are even benches to rest on. It is really rare to find something like this on Tenerife. With a length of over 16 km, a good level of fitness is a prerequisite. After all, there are almost 1000 metres of altitude to be climbed and descended in one go.
