Hike 15: Huevos del Teide/Montana Blanca

Actually a Teide ascent with the Teleferico return trip was planned. But due to fresh snow, fierce winds and closure of the ascent to the Altavista hut, it could not be done. So I came up with the idea of only doing the first part of this tour past the Huevos del Teide to Montana Blanca. And this hike offered a foretaste of what you can expect when climbing Teide.

 

The easy path was partly icy but still very passable. A strong wind was blowing from the beginning. On the summit, I was caught by very strong gusts while filming, which you can see very well in the video. In any case, during the winter months winter-proof clothing such as a hat, hood and gloves are recommended and should at least be carried in the car.

 

Since we had already done the Fortaleza (Tour 10), the altitude of 2700 metres did not cause us any problems. All in all, the tour was very appealing due to the snow and a good test for a Teide ascent, even if that will be in a different league. From the entire route you have wonderful views of the north and east of Tenerife. Some of these are more beautiful than from the 1000 metre higher Teide.

Montana Blanca covered in light-coloured pumice was formed 2000 years ago.

 

The Huevos del Teide (Teide Eggs) rolled down the slope of the Teide at that time, glowing hot, and then cooled down.
