Whale Watching with MS Katrin
Compared to the Flipper Uno the MS Katrin no music and partying during the ride. It's also good that the trip only lasts 2 hours. That is quite enough. First of all, you have to know that the operator's website is often down. This is due to the mediocre web server. The website is also old-fashioned and rather off-putting.
You can get the tickets in the shop of the operator, which is not far from the harbour. If you go to the harbour, you first see a big sign and 100 metres further on is the shop. Of course, you can also buy tickets at the boat. In summer, however, it can happen that the boat is overbooked and the shop is the better choice.
In the short briefing it was said that no whales had been sighted in the whale grounds in the morning and that we would therefore sail to the area where dolphins were sure to be seen. After 15 minutes, the boat stopped 15 metres in front of the Flipper Uno and right in between there were a lot of dolphins. They practically swam along with both boats.
Then we went on to Playa de Masca. This is part of the standard programme for all boats. The rocks look quite impressive, but you have booked a whale watching tour. For me, this cruising along the coast is just a kind of filler programme. In my opinion, there would have been enough time to visit the whale grounds.
Snacks and drinks are available at fair prices, but you can also take something with you. It is important to have a warm jacket with you, because on the sea there is sometimes a strong wind. By the way, the size of the boat doesn't matter if it rocks at sea. Overall, the atmosphere on the MS Kartin was very pleasant. However, the excursion only lasted 1:50. I would have liked to see an attempt to see whales, if one is already there. But of course the operator wants to offer his guests a safe kind of entertainment. So it was an advantage at Flipper Uno that you had 3 hours. But we didn't see any whales there either.
