Hike 75: Playa Paraiso/La Caleta
A hike directly on the coast is always great fun. This one offers many contrasts and is not just a short walk. You can already tell that from the walking time of 3.5 hours. This is due to the nature of the path and the gradient. The path is often uneven, rocky, sandy and slippery. It's good if you wear sturdy walking shoes. It's always up and down, and the whole thing for the way there and back.
We park in the upper part of Playa Paraiso because you can't get a parking space at the bottom. We leave Avenida Adeje and walk down to Playa las Salinas. First the path takes us past the Bahia Principe. Now we walk over cliff sections to El Puertito, a wonderful beach. Now the path leads sometimes up, sometimes down to La Caleta. There is not just one right way. If you use an offline map, you can vary the routes.
Here a great many dropouts live together or on their own in tents and makeshift shelters in a kind of commune. When a yacht anchors in one of the bays, the differences between residents and visitors could not be greater. The friendliness of the inhabitants is striking. In La Caleta you can eat very well directly on the beach. Those who do so should bear in mind that the way back also has to be managed. Therefore, my tip is to go back to Playa Paraiso and then drive to La Caleta to eat.
A detailed description of the route and the GPS track can be found in the Hiking Guide Tenerife.
