Hike 14: Punta del Hidalgo/Chinamada
The hike starts at the end of the village of Punta del Hidalgo. There are some parking spaces at the roundabout. The tour leads over 600 metres in altitude through a bizarre rocky landscape to Chinamada. Here 15 people still live in caves and farm on terraced fields. You can eat very well in the only restaurant. The choice is large and the prices low.
The climb to Chinamada is partly exposed and steep. A round trip via Batan and back to Punta del Hidalgo through the Barranco Seco is possible but can be classified as difficult with a total of 6 hours. The descent via the rocky path through the Barranco del Rio is dangerous and strenuous. So we hiked back the same way from Chinamada.
On this tour the sun only came through in the afternoon. In the morning it is above the slopes above the trade wind clouds. Down at you can watch the surfers on the playa.
The hike is easier than Chinamada Tour 7 where the way back via Batan is arduous. On the other hand, tour 7 is more varied. I would prefer Tour 7 with the bus return from Batan.
A detailed description of the route and the GPS track can be found in the Hiking Guide Tenerife.
