Hike 89: Risco Miguel
A hike in the laurel forest in the north above Los Realejos, I would not have expected that. But this hike even tops tours in the
Anaga. With a rental car, you have to go up to Realejo Alto. In the sat nav, you should enter Calle El Medio Arriba and then turn right
into the dead-end street.
From the car park head up to the junction. My recommendation is to take the steep climb on the right
first to have a slightly less steep descent at the end. It goes up 700 metres in altitude over a distance of 2 km to El Asomadero, a
radio mast. The ascent is often over steps through laurel forest and requires a good level of fitness.
From the radio mast follow a camino and after 2.2 km you will reach a small refuge. Here you can take a well-sheltered break. You
are now on the Risco del Miguel. After a few hundred metres, the descent begins at the Punta del Risco. The path again leads through
beautiful cloud forest. It is less steep than the ascent. Behind the Fuente Pavos, a tree had fallen. You had to climb over it.
After 9.4 km we reach the ascent path. Now we still go down to the car park. The round in the cloud forest was wonderful. However, a basic level of fitness is necessary to manage the ascent. A detailed description of the route and the GPS track can be found in the Hiking Guide Tenerife.
