Hike 50: Roque de los Brezos

This tour shows that the south also offers good hikes. It offers a barranco, a view of the highest mountain in the south of Tenerife, the Conde, a summit climb and fantastic views to boot. We take the south/west motorway to the Los Christianos exit and turn off at the roundabout towards Arona. From here it is another 8 km to the town. In Arona we take the turn-off towards Vilaflor and park in a side street. You can also drive straight to the end of the village and then park on the left-hand side at a vacant white house.

 

The entrance begins 500 metres after the end of the village on the left. After 500 metres, the path splits and we go half-left. The outer left path leads to the Conde. We take the second path from the left and a short time later we find ourselves at the Barranco del Rey. We descend this, cross it and climb up again on the opposite side. The entrance on the opposite side is marked with a small blue sign. The path then leads slightly uphill with views of the mountain range above Adeje. The Conde and the west coast are also always in view.

 

The path leads higher and higher until it reaches a threshing floor. Here is the ascent to the Roque de los Brezos. I only walked halfway up to save energy for the descent to Arona. The view from this position is also quite good. It only took 20 minutes to get there and back. From the threshing floor, the trail then descends towards Arona. At first the path is clear, then it goes sometimes left and sometimes right of a water pipe. The way back is not exactly a visual highlight, but you make fast progress and in 75 minutes we are back at the starting point in Arona. If you park the car behind the starting point, you save a total of 1.5 km.
