Hike 64: Roque Taborno

The slightly longer option starts in Las Carboneras, where you park the car right at the entrance to the village on the road. From there, a 2.5 km long path begins to Taborno. This path is a dream. Lush green from the chain fern and chirping birds characterise it. First, the path goes slightly downhill and then up to Taborno. We can see Roque Taborno for a short while. After 45 minutes we are in Taborno. The place is somewhat similar to Masca, even though there is not as much hustle and bustle here.

 

The circumnavigation of the Roque is quite special. First, the path leads to the plateau of the prominent peak. We start from the left, which seems to be the preferred direction even for hiking guides who know the area. The path is quite easy and leads us past a cave. We continue to the front of Roque Taborno. On the front right side we reach a small rock plateau. The views are not only breathtaking from here. If you don't know this coastal strip yet, your eyes will glaze over.

 

From the plateau we keep left up the ascent. The entrance is on the right side of the path. Now there are about 100 metres of altitude to climb. This most difficult part has 2 exposed sections, which are no problem with a little concentration and experience. After a short time we are on the way back from Roque Taborno. The way back to Lo Carboneras is beautiful again, but it is a bit more strenuous than the way there.

 

The route makes the hike more strenuous than the key data suggest. Whenever you have to descend at first and climb at the end, it is particularly hard on your joints and your physical condition. But the path is far too beautiful to tackle only Roque Taborno. I can only recommend this tour for its demands and the views. It is anything but a substitute tour.
