Hike 12: Guergues steep track
The entrance to the Guergues trail has been blocked by the owner of Finca Casas de Araza since 2018. He owns some areas of the Guergues ridge. Therefore, the closure seems to be justified. The tour is not recommended until further notice.
On the third attempt, the weather finally cooperated and we were able to hike the Guergues Climb in the sunshine. This rocky path in the Teno mountains should be a must for every hiker. But you have to be sure-footed, free from vertigo and the weather must be dry. You should also have a certain basic level of fitness to manage the climbs up and down.
The start at the Mirador is still easy but gradually it gets steeper and there are some small exposed areas. There are breathtaking views
of Masca and Los Gigantes. We walked all the way to Finca de Guergues, although the last section from the small threshing floor was very
strenuous. The orientation on the overgrown plain was difficult and the view at the finca not really better. You have to continue far beyond
the finca to be able to see Playa de Masca.
With this experience, I would generally only go as far as the threshing floor, because the effort is simply not worth it. Up to the threshing floor, the hike is a dream. On the way back, we got slightly lost at the end and had to go via the Casa de Araza.
A detailed description of the route and the GPS track can be found in the Hiking Guide Tenerife.
