Hike 54: Tamaimo

This hike leads into the valley between Santiago del Teide and Tamaimo. It is very worthwhile in January and March when the almond trees are in blossom. We park in El Molledo, 200 metres behind the exit of Santiago del Teide. We walk down to the edge of the village and then keep left.

height profile Tamaimo

The path leads downhill through the Barranco de Santiago. Here you can already see the first almond trees. The path is not very steep, but the demand on surefootedness is quite high. That is why I classify the tour as moderately difficult. The path leads steadily downhill to Tamaimo. Here we walk a short distance on the main road and then keep to the left. Now the trail goes straight up the mountain. There are also a few almond trees here. We quickly gain height and there are views of the east coast. Soon we reach the southernmost point of the hike. We now walk leisurely uphill towards the motorway, which we cross through a small tunnel.

Now the path leads in the direction of Arguayo. I did not go through the town but along the TF-37. If you want to take a break here, you go through Arguayo. The path now leads up the mountain to the left, as we now cross the motorway from above. The ascent is quickly completed and there are views from the coast over the mountain range to Santiago del Teide. Now the road goes steadily downhill. After a while we cross the motorway again through another small tunnel. We keep to the left of the motorway and walk in a curve directly to El Molledo.

A detailed description of the route and the GPS track can be found in the Hiking Guide Tenerife.

The Spanish brought the almond tree, which originated in Southwest Asia, to Tenerife. to Tenerife, which was planted on a large scale. The almonds are part of many Canarian delicacies.
